INJUSTICE

As we’ve asked people ‘what hurts the most?’ we’ve found that many responses come under this category of ‘injustice’.  This a broad category and covers anything from ‘the poverty I see in the world around me’ to ‘littering in the countryside’.  Some might say these answers are a kind of deflection – we’ve asked people ‘what hurts YOU the most?’ and they’ve focused on something that is relatively impersonal and to do with other people.  And yet, it may well be for many of these individuals that the thing that genuinely hurts them the most IS what they are reading about in the news, and is the unfairness of the world.

Here are some key statistics:

  • Over the years this has become a more and more common response.

  • This kind of response is more common in men than in women.

  • The older you are the more likely you are to give an ‘injustice’ response. So 11% of under 18’s rising in ever age category to 20% over 65’s raise this as the thing that ‘hurts them the most’.
